Presented 3 "Lifestyle Experiments" at BarCamp Vancouver 2008
Submitted by Christian Nally on Sun, 2008-09-28 06:10.
I was fortunate enough to have been able to head into Vancouver for this year's installment of BarCamp Vancouver.
I'd stayed up all the previous night tossing some photos and thoughts together on the "Lifestyle Experiments" topics of 'Remote Working', 'Gulf Islands Living', and 'Sailing as Work Related Transportation'.
I was very grateful for the hospitality shown by Darren Barefoot and Julie Szabo. They permitted me to join them for their proposed talk to form a bit of a discussion panel.
They've set up http://laptopbedouin.com/ as a place to start talking about such things. Check 'em out and subscribe!
The crowd was great and had some great insights and questions. There was even one gentleman who had recently been to Galiano and was checking the place out as a destination for his family.
I got a lot of positive feedback after the talk as well, so maybe it's a talk that needs to be refined a little and actually given in full someday.
OH... here are the presentation slides, in Open Office format.
Chiodos on DeepRockDrive - Mar 28th, 2008 6 pm PDT

One thing that working on DeepRockDrive has done for me, is to bring me back into the world of up-and-coming music. Present die-hard Chiodos fans will forgive me for calling them up-and-coming (*ahem* Billboard #5 album *cough*), but I smell a band on a threshold and I'm hoping DeepRockDrive gets a chance to help out along the way.
The BEST live show I've ever seen was put on by Panic at the Disco! The raw talent and spectacle of their show blew me away. Chiodos sounds to my ears to be a heavier/harsher sounding sister to Panic.
For those who haven't yet had a listen, check out the myspace link above and for those into watching a live streaming show on the 'net, check out the DeepRockDrive Chiodos show page.
(And vote for my Panic Request while you're there!)
